Man bags 1 month imprisonment for phone theft

Abuja – A Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced a 26-year-old man, Onoja Mathew, to one month in prison for theft.

The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however gave Mathew an option to pay N5,000 fine and warned him to desist from committing crimes.

The convict, a resident of Maitama Depot, Abuja, and was convicted for stealing a mobile phone valued at N87,000 after he pleaded guilty to the charge levelled against him.

Mathew prayed the court to temper justice with mercy.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Zeerah Douglas, told the court that the matter was reported by one Ibrahim Ilyasu of Aminu Kano Crescent,
Wuse two, Abuja, at the Utako Police Station on Dec. 16, 2015.

Douglas said that the convict disappeared to an unknown destination until his arrest on Jan. 1.

According to the prosecutor, the offence is punishable under section 308 of the penal Code. (NAN)
