Kaduna – A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced a 33-year-old man, Bright Nicholas, to eight months imprisonment over misappropriation of a company’s N1.3 million.
The convict, a resident of Sabo Close in Kabala West in Kaduna, was earlier arraigned on Feb. 12 for criminal breach of trust, cheating and misappropriation.
In his judgment, the Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, said the prosecution was able to prove the charge of conspiracy, breach of trust and cheating against the convict.
Emmanuel, thereafter, sentenced Nicholas to eight months imprisonment without an option fine, adding however, that the sentence should run concurrently.
The magistrate also ordered the convict to pay N800, 000 to the complainant as compensation.
He also advised the convict to desist from committing crime as the court would not be lenient with him next time.
The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Joseph Chidi, told the court that one Folashade Ojo of Ibrahim Biu Crescent Ungwan Rimi, Kaduna, reported the matter at the Ungwan Rimi Police Station on Feb. 3.
Chidi said that sometime in Sept. 2017, the complainant employed the defendant as a marketing manager in her lotto company at Ungwan Rimi Kaduna and he made sales of tickets worth N1.3m that the convict converted the money to his personal use.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 296, 293 and 306 of the Penal Code Laws of Kaduna State.
The convict had earlier denied committing the offences.
