Mararaba(Nasarawa State) – The police on Thursday arraigned a 53-year-old labourer, Okoli Edwin, in a Mararaba Chief Magistrate’s Court for alleged theft of 20 plastics chairs from a church.
Edwin, who resides at Kabayi,Mararaba, Nasarawa State, is standing trial on a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft.
The prosecutor, Insp. Joseph Ahua told the court that on July 22, Pastor Gabriel Mark of Lightway Gospel Centre, Kabayi, lodged a complaint at the ‘A’ Division Police Station.

Ahua alleged that on July 21, at about 11a.m., the complainant went to his church located at Mararaba and discovered that the accused trespassed into his church and stole 20 pieces of plastic chairs valued at N26,000.
He said that the accused also stole an LG DVD valued at N5, 000, adding that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 349 and 287of the Penal Code.
When the charges were read to the accused, he however, pleaded not guilty to the allegations levelled against him.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr Habbila Abundaga, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the matter till Sept. 7 for hearing (NAN).
