Abeokuta – A 21-year-old man, Ashonila Victor, who allegedly assaulted a staff of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company,(IBEDC) while on duty, on Friday appeared in a Magistrates’ Court in Abeokuta.
Victor, who resides in Iporo Asalu Community, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, is charged with assault.
The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Olu-Balogun Lawrence, told court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan.2 at Iporo Asalu Community of Abeokuta.
Lawrence alleged that the defendant, punched one Craig Damilola in the face and mouth, causing him bodily injuries.
He said that the complainant who is an IBEDC staff, went to the house of the defendant’s house to investigate allegations that the defendant by-passed his prepaid metre.
He alleged that the defendant attacked him.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 355 of the criminal code laws of Ogun State 2006.
Magistrate Olakunleyin Oke admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50, 000 with a reliable surety in like sum.
Oke ordered that the surety must be gainfully employed, and must show evidence tax payment to the Ogun government
He adjourned the case until Jan 15 for trial.
