Man docked for allegedly stealing cell phone valued at N18,000

Lagos  –   An 18-year-old man, Riliwan Ogundare, who allegedly stole a cell phone valued at N18,000, was on Thursday arraigned in a Surulere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Ogundare of no fixed address is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, attempted stealing and stealing.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Gabriel Ekundayo, the accused and others now at large, committed the offences at No. 3, Cooker Road, Orile Iganmu, Lagos, at about 1:00p.m. on Feb. 26.

Ekundayo said the accused with others now at large, entered a bus at the above address and cut the pocket of one Ismaila Garba and one Tunde Balogun with razor blade while the bus was in motion.

He said that while the complainants were still inside the bus, Balogun discovered his phone was missing, and Garba, who did not keep money in his pocket, discovered his pocket was torn.

“They both raised alarm but while the accused and others were trying to escape, Ogundare was caught,’’ he said.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 409, 21(1) and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs M.I. Dan-Oni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

Dan-Oni said the surety must be gainfully employed; provide evidences of tax payment and the address verified.

The case was adjourned till March 17 for further hearing. (NAN)
