Lagos – A 42-year-old man, Quarzeem Oloko, who allegedly stole 100 chickens worth N250,000 was on Friday arraigned at a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, a resident of Greenville Estate, Power Line, Badore, Aja, Lagos, is facing two-count charge of theft and obtaining under false pretence.
Oloko, however, pleaded not guilty and was granted bail N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Omolaja Kazeem, said that the accused must provide two responsible and gainfully employed sureties.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Fidelis Dike, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 4, at about 10 a.m., at 15, Famoti St., Addo, Lekki, Lagos.
Dike said that the accused collected 100 chickens worth N250, 000 from the poultry of one lady with the promise to pay after sales.
“But the accused refused to honour the agreement between him and the complainant.
“He had been avoiding the complainant after the sale of the chickens.
“He refused to pick Adebayo’s call and did not pay her the money, which was the bulk of her capital. This led to the collapse of the complainant poultry business,’’ he said.
According to him, the offences contravened Sections 287 and 314 (1) (2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The court adjourned the case until Nov. 28.
