Ikeja, – A 25-year-old man, Adebayo Jubril, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing imported plastic rubbers valued at N1.5million.
The prosecutor, Insp. Aondohemba Koti, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan.14 at Mushin in Lagos state.
He said that the defendant stole several plastic rubbers of 25 litres each worth N1.5million, property of one Mr Abdullahi Mohammed.
Koti said the complainant observed that his plastic rubbers were always missing and he could not trace them to anybody until luck ran against the defendant.
“The defendant always scaled the fence to gain access into the company’s premises at night to steal the plastic rubbers.
“He was caught when he was selling them on Lagos Island,” the prosecutor said.
The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes three years’ imprisonment for stealing.
The defendant, whose residential address and occupation were not disclosed, however, entered a `not-guilty’ plea to the charge levelled against him.
The magistrate, Mrs M.O. Tanimola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties as part of the bail conditions.
Tanimola said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government (LASG).
The case was adjourned until Feb.13 for mention.
