Man docked over theft of N4m NITEL cables

LAGOS – A truck driver, Kehinde Orelope ,33, on Wednesday appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged theft of NITEL cables worth four million naira.
Orelope, who resides at No. 172 AIT Road, Alagbado, Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and unlawful damage.
The prosecutor, Insp. Uwambo Moses, told the court that the accused drove a truck into the premises of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Ebute Meta, Lagos, to steal the cables on Aug. 12, 2014.
The prosecutor said that the accused damaged the cables while stealing them.
He added that the accused committed the offences in conspiracy with others still at large in contravention of provisions of Sections 409, 278 and 348 of the Criminal Code, Law of Lagos State, 2011.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mr. T.O. Abolarinwa, granted him bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case till Jan. 15, 2015 for mention. (NAN)
