Lagos – A 30-year-old welder, Adeola Salam, who allegedly conspired and robbed a woman of her cell phone, worth N45,000, was on Wednesday granted a N50,000 bail by an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Layinka, asked the accused to provide two sureties in like sum, as part of the bail conditions.
Layinka said the sureties should show two years evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Earlier, the accused, who resides somewhere in Abattoir Market, Agege, Lagos, had pleaded not guilty to a charge of conspiracy and robbery.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Donjor Perezi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 14, at about 12.30a.m., at No. 36, Olisa St., Fagba, Lagos.
Perezi said the accused and his gang who are still at large, came to the complainant’s compound, Mrs Bosede Monday, armed with cutlasses and broken bottles.
He alleged that the accused forced the complainant’s door open, threatened her life with their dangerous weapons and robbed her of the said items.
He further stated that the accused also robbed other occupants of the house.
Perezi said that the accused was apprehended by the security guards in the area, while the others took to their heels
He said the offences contravened Sections 295 and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 297 stipulates a seven -year jail term for convicted offenders.
The magistrate adjourned the case until May 2, for mention.
