Sango-Ota – A 40-year-old man, Adegoke Azeez, was on Friday arraigned in an Ota Magistrates ‘ Court, Ogun, for allegedly defrauding a woman of N130,000.
Azeez, who lives at No. 4, Hassan St., toll gate area of Ota, is facing a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretences and fraud.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the accused committed the offences with some others still at large, on Jan. 2 at Sango-Ota.
Mustapha alleged that the accused collected N130,000 from the complainant, Mrs Victoria Adenekan, with a promise to help secure admission for her daughter in the University of Lagos.
“He failed to fulfill the agreement he reached with the complainant, but instead converted the money to his personal use, ” he said.
The offences contravened Sections 419 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mathew Akinyemi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N300,000, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Sept. 26 for mention .
