Ikeja – A 38-year-old man, Fatai Shuaibu, was on Tuesday docked before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of a tricycle worth N350,000.
The police charged Shuaibu, a resident of Church Street, Ijora, Lagos, with stealing and conspiracy but he pleaded not guilty before Magistrate A.I. Abina.
According to the Prosecutor, Sgt. Ishola Samuel, Shuaibu stole a brand new tricycle belonging to one Mr Abiola Aransiola.
he said that the theft took place on Dec. 22, 2018, at Iponri Bus Stop on Ikorodu Road, Lagos State.
The prosecutor alleged that Aransiola gave the defendant the tricycle to sell for him but he absconded with it, adding that efforts to locate him failed for a while.
He said that the defendant confessed to selling the tricycle during interrogation.
Samuel said that the offences violated the provisions of Section 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 provides for three years’ imprisonment for stealing.
The magistrate admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N400, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case until April 16 for mention.
