Ikeja – A 25- year-old man, Ahmed Oyelodi, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly robbing a man of his phone valued at N20,000.
Oyelodi, whose occupation and residential address are unknown, is being tried for conspiracy, robbery and stealing.
The defendant and others still at large committed the offences on July 25 at Ogba in Lagos, the Prosecutor, Insp, Mojirade Edeme, told the court.
She said that the defendant and others robbed one Mr Aliu Umaru of his phone valued at N20,000.
“The defendant unlawfully entered into the complainant’s apartment in the night, commanding him to surrender his phone and money or they will kill him.
“When the complainant raised alarm, they took his phone that was on his bed and ran out of the house.
“The complainant’s security guard pursed them; he succeeded in apprehending the defendant, while his accomplices escaped with the phone.
“The defendant was handed over to the police,” the prosecutor said.
The offences contravened Sections 287, 296 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes three years jail term for stealing, while Section 296 prescribes 21 years for robbery.
Following his plea of not guilty, Magistrate Mrs O. A Aderibigbe released him on bail of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
Aderibigbe said that the surety should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the state government.
Further hearing has been fixed for Oct. 23 .
