Lagos – After he pleaded guilty to robbing a man of his motorcycle at gunpoint, an unemployed, Lateef Fajemisin, was on Monday remanded in Kirikiri Prisons on the orders of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B. O. Osunsanmi, who gave the ruling, said the accused should remain behind bars pending sentence.
The accused, whose address was not disclosed in court, is facing charges bordering on conspiracy and armed robbery.
The prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Imhonwa, had told court that the accused committed the offences at 12.10 a.m. on June 19 at Igbeyinadun in Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
He said the accused conspired with others still at large and robbed a man, Oriyomi Amuzat, of his Bajaj motorcycle valued at N120,000 at gunpoint.
Imhonwa said the accused, who was armed with a locally made double-barreled gun with one live cartridge, cutlasses, daggers and other dangerous weapons, robbed the complainant of his motorcycle.
He alleged that the complainant, who was on his way home after the day’s work, was attacked by the accused, pointing a gun at him.
“Amuzat was accosted by the accused that came with a gun and robbed him of the motorcycle valued at N120,000.
“He was later apprehended by the police at Ikorodu area of Lagos State while trying to dispose off the stolen motorcycle.”
The offences contravened Sections 294, 295 and 296 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused may be sentenced to 21 years imprisonment if found guilty, according to Section 296 of the Criminal Law.
The case was adjourned until Sept. 21 for a review of facts before judgment is passed. (NAN)
