Lagos. – An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday remanded a 32-year-old man, Seun Balogun, in a correctional centre, pending his sentencing for stealing items worth N360, 000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Ejiro Kubeinje, remanded Balogun after he pleaded guilty to a four-count charge of break-in, stealing, obtaining under false pretence and conspiracy.
Kubeinje adjourned the case until Jan. 9 for the review of the facts and sentencing.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that Balogun committed the offences on Dec. 5 and Dec. 6 at Ketu, near Lagos.
Ihiehie said the defendant broke into the residence of one Ifeanyi Ezeh and stole the items.
“He stole an IPhone 8 valued N150,000, a Samsung S8 phone, valued N190, 000, a Nokia 3310 phone, valued N16, 000, a wristwatch valued N30, 000 and a cash sum of N10, 000.”
Ihiehie said the defendant also used the complainant’s phone to purchase N7, 000 air time from her GTB account.
He said the offences contravened Sections 287, 307(c), 314(2) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years jail term for stealing, while Section 307 stipulates seven years jail term for break-in.
