SANGO-OTA – The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Ogun Chapter, on Thursday called on the Ogun government to urgently look into the infrastructural decay in the state.
The immediate-past Chairman of Ogun MAN, Dr Babatunde Ogutuga, made the call at the association’s 29th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Ota.
“We are calling on the state government to accelerate the construction and rehabilitation of some of the important feeder roads within Ota and the Industrial Estate.
“This will help to facilitate the movement of goods and services,” Ogutuga said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the AGM was: “West African/European Union Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and Common External Tariff (CEF): Implications for Nigeria’s Industrial Aspiration“.
“We expect that the theme of the AGM will afford us the opportunity to address critical problems that might face our members as a result of the implication of the EPA and CET, come January 1st, 2015.“ he said.
According to him, the EPA and CET will lead to de-industrialisation of the country, adding that it would lead to the non-competitiveness of the local brands.
Ogutuga said that the duo would make the expectations of millions of jobs being created with the introduction of the Nigerian Industrial Revolution Plan (NIRP) to become a mirage.
He urged the Federal Government to exhibit the political will to transform the Nigerian economy.
The ex-MAN chairman urged government to facilitate investment and improve the nation’s infrastructure, security, multiple taxation and provision of long-term funds at single digit loan rates. (NAN)
