Manager wants Nigerians look beyond educational qualifications in business development

LAGOS – The Nigeria Country Manager of OLX, an online shopping platform, Dr Lola Masha, on Thursday urged prospective entrepreneurs to look beyond their educational qualifications in showing [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”8″]interest in businesses.
Masha, who is a Chemical Engineer, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″](NAN) in Lagos.
“People often make the mistake that if you do one thing in school, you have to stay by it. There are some other things you can learn beyond academics while in school.
“You can leverage on the school environment to develop skills for effective communication. One’s [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]thinking ability is sharpened through applied studies,” Masha said.
The manager, however, said that specilisation was an added advantage in floating sustainable businesses.

She said that her background made people to link her with engineering endeavours instead of business [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]development which she had passion for.
“In the fourth year of my doctorate programme, I realised that there was actually more that I could do beyond chemical engineering.
“I discovered that my passion is on building businesses that will outlive its founder.
“After bagging my PhD, I realised that I can impact more by enabling businesses than working in an engineering firm or lecturing,” she said.
“I was lucky enough to get a job with McKenzie; working with top businesses around the globe was an opportunity for me to learn, absorb information and discern how businesses work.
“It was a fantastic way for me to quickly build my business development skill,” she said
Masha urged entrepreneurs not to be limited by their backgrounds but to explore new areas. (NAN)
