LAGOS – The Senate President, David Mark, on Friday advised young military officers and men to unite among themselves as demonstrated by retired service men. Mark, who is also the President of the 3rd Regular Course of Nigerian Defence Academy, made the remark at the burial service of late Maj. Oluwole Ajibade at St. Luke Military Church, Protestant, Lagos. The Senate president, represented by Maj.- Gen. Muftau Balogun (Rtd), said that unity among officers would create love and unique bonds. “Everyone should learn to live together as a family as we have learnt from 3rd Regular Course mates of late Maj Ajibade in the Defence Academy,’’ Mark said. According to him, the academy’s age-old bond, sewn in August 1967, carried them along even after retirement from the service and this is a challenge to the younger generation to learn from. He said that the tie of fellowship that existed then extended beyond the classroom. During the sermon, Col. (Rev.) Dawuk Danfulani, the Director, Chaplain Services, Nigerian Army, also advised the young officers to learn a life of truth from late Ajibade. “The late MajorAjibade, born on April 14 and died on April 14, lived a life of truth, demonstrated reasonable stubbornness and never deviated from being upright,’’ Danfulani said. He advised the Christian faithful in the barracks to be alert in the face of security challenges. “We must be alert in the face of security challenges; we must never be discouraged in fighting in the interest of the nation,” he said.
