First Bank female Basketball team of Lagos on Monday recorded their second win at the ongoing Mark D Basketball female Championship in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in the third match played at the indoor hall package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Anuja, First Bank Babes defeated Kada Angels of Kaduna 33 – 30 in their second game.
First Bank won the first quarter 5 – 8, they beat them 17 – 14 in the second quarter, they beat 28 – 18 in the third quarter and in the last quarter they finally beat them 33 – 30.
Mac-Dangosu Theresa of Girst Bank scored the higher points of 10 for her team while Gift Uchenna scored the highest of 11 points for Kada Angels.
NAN reports that the championship is organised in collaboration with the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) and the Ministry of Sports and Youths Development.
Speaking to NAN after match, Latif Erinfolami, the Coach, First Bank team, said his girls played a good game.
“I’m happy for the winning in their second game; they fought well because we only won with only three points different.
“The games have been off for sometime now and we did not have enough time to refresh for the competition, they will be improving in every game.
“I’m expecting victory in our remaining games. Majority of the players are inexperience, while we still have old players to balance the strength of the team,” he said.
Daddy Lawan, the caoch of Kada Angels, said his players did well even though they lost their game, adding “we won our first match against City Spark”.
“Every mistake make you perfect, so I believe that my players will play a better game in their next match against Delta Force.
“We are going back to drawing board and work on our mistake; if my players play as instructed they will definitely win their next and their subsequence games,” he said.
In other match played: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Babes beat Taraba Hurricane Babes 60-17.
In the second Hot coal Sizzlers of Abuja beat Novena Queens of Owerri 40-25.
NAN also reports a total 16 teams are participating in the championship
The teams are: Air Warrior of Abuja, First Bank, Delta Force, Sunshine Angels of Akure Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Novena Queens Owerri, Kada Angels, Benue Princess and Plateau Rocks.
Others are: Mountain of Fire (MFM), FCT Rocks, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Queens, Taraba Hurricanes, Nasarawa Amazons, Hot Coal Sizzlers of Abuja and Bayelsa Queens.
NAN reports that the championship, which started on Saturday, will end on Jan. 22.
