Daura (Katsina State) -Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State has pledged to accord priority attention to science, technical and vocational education.
He made the pledge on Monday in Daura, Katsina State, during the inauguration of a knowledge access centre in the Pilot Secondary School in the town.
Masari, who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu, said the education sector was the backbone of the development of any society in the world.
He said “the existing science and technical schools will continue to receive the needed attention to boost science and technical education in the state.
“We are determined to support technical and science education to meet up with the current wave of globalisation in the 21st century.
“Our existing 39 computer centres that have full Internet services will be improved and maintained to get the best result and achieve the set objectives.’’
The governor further promised that the state government would continue to organise training programmes with the aim of building the capacity of teachers to deliver optimal services.
Masari further said that the state government had formed a committee with the mandate to go round the state to ascertain the level of education infrastructure, with a view to making a plan to improve the quality of education.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
He said “the state government will use the recommendations of the committee to improve the welfare and the quality of teachers in the state.’’
Earlier, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mr Peter Jack, had urged students of secondary schools in the country to make proper use of internet facilities to boost their knowledge.
He said “we implore the users of this facility to continue to use the ICT centres for learning and collaboration to harness positive values for our youth population.’’
Jack said NITDA had been faithful to the ideals and principles of information technology with the aim of connecting all Nigerians with Information, Communications and Technolgy ( ICT) knowledge. (NAN)
