Katsina- Alhaji Aminu Masari, All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Katsina State, has vowed to abolish the state/ local government joint account if he wins the election 2015.
Masari made the vow on Sunday in Katsina while addressing newsmen.
He said he would enlist the support of the state Assembly to repel the law which compelled the 34 local government councils to operate a joint account with the state government.
“The joint account is a conduit pipe being used to divert local government funds into the state treasury.
“It is an account being utilised by state governments to siphon federal grants to local government councils,’’ he said.
He said that his administration would release the full allocations from the federation account to the 34 local government councils in order to liberate councils from the apron of the state government.
Masari pledged that his administration would monitor the expenditure of local councils to prevent their officials from spending their monthly allocations recklessly.
“We are going to establish a mechanism that will monitor the expenditures of local councils; anybody caught diverting funds will face the full wrath of the law.
“I will not allow my son or wife to become a contractor; if my wife visit local government on working tour, she will not collect gratification,’’ he said.
The APC candidate appealed to the electorate to vote for the party in the 2015 governorship poll. (NAN)
