ENUGU (SUNDIATA POST)- A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Hycienth Ngwu, says, mass protest is an “ill-wind that blows no one any good’’, as it always ends in violence, looting and destruction.
Ngwu, a former APC Publicity Secretary in the South-East, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Enugu, on a planned nationwide protest from Aug.1 to Aug.10, over economic hardship.
The politician warned that the protest could be easily infiltrated and hijacked by subversive agents, thereby resulting in violence and destruction of private and public property, against the intentions of the protesters.
According to him, two wrongs can never make a right and solutions are easily found through dialogues, debates and consensus.
He stressed that the protest could be easily infiltrated by the non-aligned, who, most times, are hired to cause destruction and mayhem.
Ngwu, therefore, advised organisers of the protest to form a team and select representatives to dialogue with the national and sub-national governments.
“I believe this approach will achieve a better result than taking to the streets in the name of mass protests.
“Dialogue was recently employed in the resolution of the minimum wage saga.
“This workable option should be employed in this situation. It is a sure win-win solution,’’ he said. (NAN)
