This follows an interview with Haruna’s wife, Mrs. Hussaina Haruna, and subsequent calls for justice.
In a statement, Ahmad Dan-Wudil, Personal Assistant on Media to the Minister, said Matawalle is committed to upholding justice and fairness. The Minister stated, “Our armed forces are built on honour, discipline, and justice. No officer serving this nation should face undue hardship or wrongful treatment.”
Matawalle assured that the case will be thoroughly investigated, and the truth will be uncovered. He emphasized that all relevant authorities, including the Nigerian Navy, will be involved in the investigation to establish the facts and ensure justice is served.
The Minister reiterated that all military personnel, regardless of rank, deserve fair and respectful treatment. He stressed that Seaman Abbas Haruna’s rights will be protected throughout the investigation, and any breach of protocol will be addressed promptly and decisively.
The Ministry remains committed to upholding the rule of law, ensuring that no officer or civilian faces unfair treatment or harassment. Matawalle urged the public and stakeholders to remain calm and patient as the investigation progresses.”
