The nation’s current status, estimated at 350 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births, is still 40 percent short of the 2015 target of 250 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births, the survey added.
At its monthly research lecture series titled; “Nigeria’s Achievement of MDGs by 2015 – Reality or Myth”, Dr. Yetunde Aluko, Senior Research Fellow in the Social and Governance Policy Research Department of NISER, said “Nigeria is well on track regarding the MDG target for HIV/AIDS. At the national level, the MDG target has been met. The spread of HIV has been halted and has begun to be reversed. There has been a sharp decrease in malaria prevalence. Progress has also been made on tuberculosis”, she said.
