IBADAN – The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Oyo State has appealed to the state government to ensure prompt payment of the three months salaries owed workers in the state.
Mr Waheed Olojede, the Chairman of the NLC in the state, made the appeal in Ibadan at the 2015 Workers Day celebration held at Lekan Salami Stadium on Friday.
He said that the new labour executive was ready to collaborate with the state government to move the state forward.
“We will engage government in a round-table aimed at resolving the workers salary arrears issue because a happy worker is he or she that produces,” he said.
He also urged Nigerians to accept the struggle of building the nation as a collective project, saying this is a joint responsibility of all stakeholders.
“Employers of labour, both public and private, should see workers as partners in progress and should create conducive environment for them to function,” he said.
In his remarks, Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State promised to provide workers all necessary welfare package to excel.

Ajimobi, who was represented by his deputy, Chief Moses Adeyemo , attributed the non-payment of salaries to paucity of funds from the Federation Account.
He said that the self-will of his government to deliver on its promises to workers in order to ensure efficiency had made it put all measures in place.
“I appreciate and acknowledge the perseverance of all workers in the state.
“ You have all demonstrated your commitment to partner with my administration to move this state forward,” he said.
