Meet 8 Members that impeached Plateau Assembly Speaker

Abuja (Sundiata Post) – A member of the Plateau State House of Assembly, representing Langtang North-central State Constituency, Hon. Daniel Nanbol Listick has given the names of those that impeached the Assembly Speaker, Hon. Abok Ayuba.

Recall that the Speaker was impeached Thursday at 6am by only eight members out of the 24 members, with heavy security barring other members and staff from gaining access to the Assembly complex.

However Listick in a statement Thursday sent to our correspondent said the process was and fingered Governor Simon Lalong to have sponsored the impeachment.

He gave their names as:

Hon. Baba Ibrahim Hassan – APC – Jos North North.

Hon. Naanlong Daniel Gapyil – APC – Mikang.

Hon. Livinus James Kwapfuan – APC – Shendam.

Hon. Eric Dakogol – APC – Quanpan North.

Hon. Abubakar Mohammed Ballo – APC – Quanpan South.

Hon. Yakubu Sanda – APC – Pengan.

Hon. Abdul Yanga – APC – Mangu North West.

Hon. Yahaya Mavo – APC – Wase”, Listick said.

Lalong Sponsored This Impeachment:

It is obvious that Governor Simon Lalong sponsored the impeachment of the Assembly Speaker, Listick continued.

“This illegality was sponsored by the Governor who has been having fracas with the legislature over the incident of the unfortunate killings in the State that took place two months ago.

“It is also part of our constitutional responsibility to defend the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of

“On this faithful morning of Thursday 28.10.2021 some Honourble Members under the of well armed security personnel came into the House of Assembly Chambers and created gross confusion by carrying out an act that they impeached the Hon. Speaker. Some of us went to the House but we’re refused access to the Chamber.

“They went against Section 92(2c) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of and Order 7 rule 14 of Standing of the Plateau State House of Assembly”, he said

The New Speaker Visits

The new Speaker appointed by the eight members, Hon. Yakubu Sanda on Thursday paid a courtesy call to the Government House, pledging loyalty to Governor Lalong.

Sanda led some members of the House to the to assure the Executive arm of its collaboration and cooperation in running the affairs of the State.

The new Speaker was received by Secretary to the Government of the State Prof. Danladi Atu on behalf of the Governor.

Speaking during the visit, the Majority leader of the House Hon. Naanlong Daniel said they were at the in line with the tradition of the House to introduce the new of the House whenever there is a change.

Responding on behalf of the Governor, Secretary to the Government of Plateau State Prof. Danladi Atu said Governor Lalong and the entire Executive arm was surprised with the development, but nevertheless respects the decision of the House which is an autonomous organ that has powers to manage its internal affairs.

He assured the House that the doors of the Executive will always remain open for collaboration and cooperation with the legislature in delivering good governance and actualising the Rescue Agenda.
