Meningitis: FCTA Directs PHCB To Extend Vaccination To Schools, Staff, Others

Abuja (Sundiata Post)  –  Authorities of the Federal Capital Territory (FCTA), have directed its Agency; Primary Health Care Board (PHCB), to extend the on-going vaccination against meningitis to schools, officers in its employ and residents of the six Area Councils in the FCT as part of measure to forestall the spread of the dreaded disease.

The directive was contained in a statement signed by Tony Odeh, Press Secretary, Office of the FCT Permanent Secretary, made available to SundiataPost.

According to the statement, the FCT Permanent Secretary, Dr.Babatope Ajakaiye handed down the directive on Thursday in his office at Area 11 during a meeting with the six Area Councils Chairmen and other stakeholders.

Ajakaiye who assured the board of the readiness of FCT Administration to make financial intervention in the event of shortage of vaccines and other facilities, urged religious organizations to always make their children and followers available for vaccination, while stressing that the FCT Administration would continue to carry out policies and programmes aim at enhancing the wellbeing and welfare of residents of the Territory.

The FCT Permanent Secretary who remarked that no responsible government would watch the lives of its citizens ravaged by diseases that can be prevented, urged officers, schools and residents of the Territory to avail them for the exercise, adding that government would not hesitate to arrest and prosecute defiant.

Responding, the Executive Secretary of PHCB assured the Permanent Secretary of the readiness of the board to carry out the directive.
