Microsoft has announced the launch of its employability programme to serve young people in Nigeria. In a statement released by the global brand on Wednesday, the company said the programme launch would be preceded by an event to unveil its name, official identity and partners at a media & VIP event on Friday, 15 November at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
“Microsoft takes its citizenship engagement as primary to its work,” said Ugochukwu Nwosu, who is the Citizenship Manager at Microsoft for Anglophone West Africa. “In working with organisations, technology enthusiasts and governments at every level, we have emphasised the crucial importance of jobs for a new generation of Nigerians. This programme is a major step in leading a coordinated solution to this urgent problem.”
The programme, which is presented in partnership with The Future Project, features a web based Job/training resource centre that aims to provide a guide for young Africans in the area of career planning, skill acquisition, entrepreneurship development, Job sourcing and small business sustainability. The objective is to create a better-informed and empowered citizenry across Nigeria; particularly among the youth demography.
“The Future Project has always invested in enterprise and expanding opportunities for young people,” said Chude Jideonwo, who is Executive Director for The Future Project. “Through our enterprise support scheme platform, we have over 5 years created a platform for young people to build a community of opportunities, to connect with capacity and build a shared future of value. We are glad to be partnering with Microsoft to scale up this engagement and to reach a deeper pool of the un-served across the country.”
