ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – The Nigerian Army has arrested one Mr. Onokphemheo Godswork operating under the false name Mr. Guy Ajah, for defrauding applicants of 74 Regular Recruits Intake under the guise of facilitating their recruitment into the Service.
This was disclosed in a statement signed on Tuesday by Col. Onyema Nwachukwu for the Director Army Public Relations (DAPR), saying that Mr. ‘Ajah’ who lured several unsuspecting citizens through a scam email address, [email protected], had presented himself as a person in authority in the Nigerian Army.
Nwachukwu said that the suspect had conned unsuspecting members of the public with a GSM number 07032715751, following which he directed the victims to make payment into a UBA account number 2083426339 and First Bank account number 3096498825.
According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the fraudster’s GSM number 07032715751was registered with the name Progress Ehizoha of 11 Iruele Street, Ubiaja.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
He said: “he Nigerian Army also discovered that the two bank accounts which Mr ‘Ajah’ operated for his fraudulent activities had different names. The UBA account details disclosed that it was opened in the name of Imoseni Paul of Oke Old Aloforhai Street, Oke Old Grammar School, Benin City, Edo State, with GSM number 08132352808. Other details also indicated that the suspect is a final year National Diploma student, Auchi Polytechnic, and had used his voter’s card registered in Owan West Local Area, Edo State which he submitted to the bank.
“Investigations also revealed that the suspect’s First Bank account number 3096498825 was opened in the name of Onokphemheo Godsworks of 7 Egelesor, Auchi, Edo State. He tendered a voter’s card with registration number ST2/LO7/RO1/POO5 and VIN: 10028103802 but with a different address, No7, Igekumhe, Egelesor, Auchi, Edo State sharp corner, Egelesor, Auchi Edo State (Behind Royal Block at the Auchi Sharp Corner to Iyekhei Girls School). Additionally, the investigation revealed that the suspect used the same phone number 08132352808 for the UBA account with one Mr Isaac Focus Emma Onokphemheo of the same address with the phone number 08138209001 as the next of kin.”
Nwachukwu revealed that the suspect was further tracked via phone number 08138209001 and was eventually lured to Abuja where he was arrested on 23 October, 2015, during which the suspect’s true identity was revealed as Mr Onokphemheo Godswork, aged 25, of No 1 Abu Shuaibu Street,Auchi Etsako Central LGA of Edo State.
He said that the suspect who, has confessed to having committed the cyber-crime in a written statement, has been handed over to Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID) on October 27, 2015 for further investigation and possible prosecution.
He recalled that the Nigerian Army in recent times had arrested and paraded before the media fraudsters who specialise in defrauding innocent young Nigerians desiring to join the Army.
Consequently, he said, the public is advised to be suspicious of dubious offers of recruitment into the Nigerian Army especially through the internet, and report such offers or persons to the nearest Army unit, formation or police station.
