….As NCC’s new ECSM takes oath of office
Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami has thumped up the efforts of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in accelerating broadband penetration and curbing cases of invalidly-registered Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards in the country.
Pantami gave the commendation during the presentation of the new Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management (ECSM) of NCC, Adeleke Adewolu, to the Minister for swearing-in.
The NCC team was led by its Board Chairman, Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye at the instance of the Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Umar Danbatta alongside other board member and management team of the Commission.
Speaking after swearing in Adewolu as board members and new ECSM of the NCC, the Minister, who listed areas of urgent attention for the Commission to focus on for the benefits of Nigerians, particularly commended the Commission for its regulatory activities.
“I would like to commend the Commission, firstly, for how it has responded to the issue for pre-registered/improperly-registered SIM cards in the country and secondly, for facilitating broadband penetration in the country,” he said.
Pantami acknowledged that in 2018, the Commission succeeded in achieving and surpassing the national broadband target of 30 percent and has continued to deepen the broadband penetration even higher to the current figure of 35 percent.
Meanwhile, Pantami has advised the new ECSM to work with the other board members towards achieving the tripartite objectives of President Muhammadu Buhari to curb corruption, enhance security and provide economy empowerment to Nigerian through job creations.
Earlier, Senator Olabiyi, who formally introduced Adewolu to the Minister, seek the support of the Minister to work with the Commission towards driving the frontier of digital economy forward.
