ABUJA – The president, Bola Tinubu has reportedly included Nyesom Wike, former governor of Rivers; Gboyega Oyetola, immediate past governor of Osun; and Nasir el-Rufai, immediate past governor of Kaduna; in his ministerial list.
The Nation reports that the list was sent to Godswill Akpabio, the senate president, this morning.
The newspaper also reveals that the list also have David Umahi, former governor of Ebonyi; Atiku Bagudu, former governor of Kebbi; Mohammed Badaru; former governor of Jigawa; Tokunbo Abiru; senator representing Lagos east and David Edevbie, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections.
Lateef Fagbemi’s nomination, is hanging on the balance because of his closeness to Rotimi Amaechi, immediate past minister of transportation.
The newspaper, quoting a source, said the list is a blend of politicians and technocrats but couldn’t confirm whether the list had portfolios nor the number of nominees.
However, the source said the list reflected the national character and outlook of the President and the ruling party.
The president had to send the list to the senate before Friday this week, in line with section 42(a) of the constitution which states that “the nomination of any person to the office of a Minister for confirmation by the Senate shall be done within sixty days after the date the President has taken the oath of office”.
Tinubu was sworn in on May 29.
The senate will commence its recess today and will reconvene in September.
