Ministry to design safety strategy for motor parks

GOMBE – The Ministry of transport is to develop a strategy on how best to safeguard motor parks in the country, said the Minister of Transport, Malam Idris Umar.

Umar stated this in Gombe on Sunday while speaking to newsmen shortly after visiting the Federal Teaching Hospital and Specialist Hospital Gombe, where the victims of Friday bomb blast were admitted as well as the scene of the blast.

“I will soon summon an emergency meeting with commissioners for transport to discuss how best to safe guard our motor parks.

“Just recently we concluded the National Transport Council meeting; we addressed the issue of safety and security.

“But of course even the current level of challenges, we need to probably do more on the level of guarding the motor parks.

“This is what concerns more of the states and perhaps the local governments.

“We need to really come together to ensure how best we safeguard the motor parks,” Umar said.

The Minister further described the Gombe Line motor park bomb blast as unfortunate.

Umar said that he was impressed with the level of recovery of the victims from what he saw in the hospital.

He also commended the effort put in by the doctors and other health workers to assist the victims.

He gave the assurance that government was doing a lot in the area of security, adding that the relevant equipment needed to fight insurgency had be secured.

“By the grace of God in no distance future the insurgency will come to an end.’’

The minister, while at the Federal Teaching Hospital and Specialist Hospital Gombe, gave each of the 22 victims of the blast N50,000.(NAN)
