OWERRI – A chieftain of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Imo, Prof. Amaobi Uwaleke, has said that misplaced priorities have been the bane of development in the state.
Addressing members of the Owerri Zone Youth Movement in Owerri on Monday, Uwaleke, a professor of information technology at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri said that lack of industries in the state was responsible for the high rate of youth unemployment.
He said that for any government to meet with the demands of the people, there must be proper planning.
“There is a misplacement of priority in governance that is why the state is backward in terms of development.
“The government has spent so much money in raising structures that have no direct impact to the people of the state.
“The only solution to the problem of unemployment in the state is for the government to build industries in the three zones,” he said.
Also speaking, the leader of the movement, Mr Ugochukwu Emeana, said the youths of Imo were ready to revolt against bad governance.
He said the group would only adopt credible candidates to run for various political positions in coming elections, adding that the days were gone when youths were used as political thugs.
He urged those aspiring to govern the state to make youth empowerment their priority. (NAN)
