ABUJA (SUNDIATA POST)- Miss Ebere-Joy Ekekwe, winner of the 2023 season 11 Miss Tourism Nigeria, has called on political leaders to imbibe the spirit of accountability and transparency in piloting the affairs of the country.
Ekekwe made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Abuja.
She said that imbibing transparency and accountability in leadership would ensure delivery of more dividends of democracy to the citizens.
According to her, Nigeria, as the giant of Africa, is supposed to be known for strength; resilience; robust structures and systematic structures to hold its leaders accountable.
Ekekwe said that good leaders were supposed to have regards and respect for the country’s regulations, rule of law, and also implement the laws with dignity and integrity.
She lamented that there were numerous abandoned government projects, all left to waste.
According to her, these projects can generate billions of Naira in revenue; create numerous jobs for the youths; reduce hunger; and significantly contribute to the country’s GDP.
Ekekwe said that there was the need to monitor and follow up projects to ensure that things were done for the good of the entire nation and not just for personal gain or selfish interests.
“All the continuous borrowings by the Federal Government and the massive debts we have incurred, could have been avoided if resources were properly managed and accounted for.
“It is high time we, as citizens, began to seek answers. It is high time we fearlessly demand transparency and a more structured and measurable way to hold our leaders accountable for their responsibilities.
“Our country’s future depends on it,” Ekekwe said. (NAN)
