Abuja – Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has urged the Indian Government to ensure that justice prevails by carrying out investigation and bring those responsible in the mob attacks on Nigerians to book.
She urged the Indian government to ensure that any alleged suspect should be promptly tried and prosecuted.
The Presidential aide urged the Indian Government to protect Nigerian students in India.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that four Nigerian students were attacked by a mob during a candle-light march for a 17-year-old boy, who died of suspected drug overdose.
Dabiri-Erewa urged Nigerians in India to remain calm and be watchful of their surroundings.
She said the Charge’ d ‘Affairs in India, Amb. Queen Worlu had promptly visited the scene of the incident and also visited the three patients in hospital
Dabiri-Erewa said other reports had it that nine Nigerians were attacked, and all are students of Noida International University in India.
“I have also spoken with Mr Charles Kennedy, President of the Students’ Association in Greater Noida where the attacks occurred.
“He said that a Kenyan girl who was walking alone in the early hours of Wednesday was also attacked and that more police patrol vehicles had been deployed to all areas.
” He confirmed that the situation was calm and was pleased with the prompt actions of the Charge D Affairs in India and the Indian government so far”, Dabiri-Erewa said.
The Presidential aide reiterated her calls to all Nigerians to be of good behaviour anywhere they found themselves as any form of crime and criminality is unacceptable
The aide said anyone caught in the act and would have to face the consequences.
She said that steps had been taken so far by India government which included patrol of the area and immediate arrest of suspected culprits with more arrests likely.
Dabiri-Erewa, however, prayed for the quick recovery of the three in the hospital in India.
