OGU (Rivers) – The paramount ruler of Ogu community in Rivers, Chief Nicholas Ibiebele-Nimenibo, on Sunday urged recipients of the recent national awards to reciprocate the honour by enhancing national development.
Ibie-Nimenibo gave the charge at a special reception organised by the Ogu community in honour of Sen. George Sekibo in Ogu, Ogu/Bolo local government area of Rivers.
Sen. Sekibo, (PDP- Rivers East) was conferred with the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON).
The Paramount ruler said although the award was recognition for hard work it also called for higher commitment in the actualisation of a better nation.
Ibie-Nimenibo said the national award conferred on Sekibo and other eminent Nigerians had reassured the people of their confidence in the dignity of labour.
According to him, Sekibo is a gift to Ogu people, and we plead with him to attract more democracy dividends to Rivers East Senatorial Zone.
“Sen. Sekibo has devoted his youth to the service of his people.
“He was less than 30 years old when he joined politics and since then, he has shown outstanding leadership qualities,” he said. [eap_ad_1] Mr Evans Bipi, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, also thanked the Federal Government for recognising an Ogu son.
Bipi, (PDP- Ogu/Bolo) urged the senator to continue protecting the interests of his district and the nation in his political pursuits.
He urged Nigerians to cooperate with the electoral body, INEC, in ensuring a peaceful democratic transition by accepting the recent criteria for allocating more polling units across the country.
In his speech, Sekibo, also a member of the Ogu Council of Chiefs, thanked the people for the reception and promised to protect their interests.
He urged them to support peaceful democratic transition by participating in the forthcoming voter registration exercise in the state. (NAN)
