Umaisha – A traditional ruler in Nasarawa state, Alhaji Usman Abdullah, has called on the Federal Government to take proactive measures to tackle the activities of crude oil vandals in the Niger Delta region.
Abdullahi, the Ohimegye of Opanda, made the call on Wednesday in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at his palace in Umaisha Nasarawa State.
He said that the activities of the Niger Delta Avengers coupled with the fall in the price of crude oil in the international market had contributed to the decline in the economy.
“In view of this development, there is need for the government to explore strategy to fix the problem once and for all.
“No nation or society can develop in an atmosphere of rancour and confusion.
“Security challenges facing some parts of the country have affected our lives, agricultural production and socio-economic development of the country.
“I appeal to the government to come up with proactive measures to tackle the activities of oil vandals in the Niger Delta region and other parts of the country,’’ he said
Abdullahi appealed to farmers and Fulani herdsmen to understand each other and co-exist peacefully in order to boost food production.
He urged Nigerians to be law abiding, respect constituted authorities and to continue to live in peace and tolerate one another. (NAN)
