Ulan bator – Mongolia has installed surveillance cameras on more than 1,200 public buses in its capital Ulan Bator so far in 2019 to fight pickpockets.
The country’s National Police Agency (NPA) said on Tuesday that it was to ensure public safety.
“Public buses in the capital city are now the most popular target for thieves,” the NPA said in a statement.
“Therefore, NPA and traffic authorities have been installing surveillance cameras on the public transport to reduce pickpocket crime and ensure public security.’’
There were 1,280 registered pickpocket crimes in the country in 2018, up 46.6 per cent from 2017, the police said.
The agency noted that one in five bag snatches and pickpocket crimes now occur on public buses.
