Jos – The Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN), says it is partnering with the Nigeria Film Corporation(NFC) to curb piracy and organise film festivals.
Its President, Abdullahi Usman, who led a MOPPAN delegation on a courtesy visit to the NFC management on Tuesday in Jos, also pledged support toward the passage of the Nigeria Film Commission Bill currently before the National Assembly.
Usman described piracy as “very destructive”, and called for the standardization of the film Industry through capacity building to tackle it.
He commended the Federal Government for placing premium on alternative revenue sources, and particularly lauded the emphasis on the film sector.
“We believe that this step shall offer employment opportunities and shore up the fortunes of the film industry,” he said.
In his response, the Managing Director of NFC, Dr. Chidia Maduekwe, described the visit as “a sign of commitment and support for the NFC towards revamping the film industry”.
Maduekwe urged MOPPAN to open zonal offices so as to widen its impact, and challenged state governments to emulate the Kano State Government’s gesture of training 450 practitioners in all aspects of motion picture.
