ABUJA – A Grade 1 Area Court sitting in Kado, Abuja on Thursday admitted an ex-soldier, Hassan Usman, to bail for N5,000 after being accused of stealing a motorcycle valued at N110,000.
Usman, who resides in Waziri Ibrahim Estate, Damaturu, is charged with two counts of conspiracy and theft.
The Presiding Judge, Malam Mohammed Sadiq, who admitted the accused, also ordered him to produce one reliable surety.
He adjourned the case until May 12 for further hearing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Simon Ibrahim, told the court that Mr Nasiru Yunusa of Jabi Daki Biyu, Abuja, lodged a report against the accused at the Utako Police Station on March 10.
Ibrahim said that the accused and one other now at large, snatched the complainant’s Bajaj Motorcycle valued at N110,000.
The prosecutor said while the accused’s accomplice succeeded in running away with the motorcycle, he was caught on the spot.
He said the offence contravened sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code while the accused could be sentenced to five years in prison, fine or both.
Usman had pleaded not guilty. (NAN)
