On Tuesday, February 4, the Federal Government announced that toll collection will begin on the Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Makurdi Expressway.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, made this known while inaugurating the new tolling system at the Garaku Toll Station in Nasarawa State. The toll charges will range from N500 for saloon cars to N1,600 for multi-axle vehicles.
Umahi, who was represented by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, explained that the revenue from toll collection will be used to maintain all federal roads across the country.
He emphasized the importance of this road corridor, describing it as vital for Nigeria’s economic, social, and strategic development.
The minister stated that the collection of tolls will generate much-needed revenue for maintaining and expanding the country’s roads. He also confirmed that the Toll Order and Fee Schedule for the Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia-Makurdi Federal Highway has been officially recorded, with saloon cars paying N500, SUVs and jeeps N800, minibuses N1,000, and multi-axle vehicles N1,600.
He further mentioned that frequent road users, including commercial light vehicles as defined under the Federal Highway Act, will receive a 50 percent discount.
Additionally, vehicles belonging to the police, military, and other essential agencies will be exempted from toll charges.
