Abuja – The wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, on Tuesday inaugurated a borehole for the use of Gofinda community in Abuja Municipal Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Mrs Buhari, who was represented by the former Plateau Deputy Governor, Mrs Pauline Tallen, urged the Gofinda community to safeguard the facility.
She said that her NGO, the `Future Assured’ initiative would continue to assist in infrastructural development as well as improvement of the well-being of women and children in the FCT.
The wife of the President called on the people of Gofinda community to be vigilant against any possible vandalism of the facility by hoodlums.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the residents of Gofinda community came out in large numbers to welcome Mrs Buhari`s delegation with solidarity songs.
They expressed their delight for Mrs Buhari’s kind gesture.
The Gofinda community’s Village Head, Mr Tukura Ismaila, said that his subjects usually trekked for about three kilometres to fetch water from a contaminated stream.
Ismaila expressed his joy for the kind gesture and promised to safeguard the facility.
Also speaking, Mr Abdullahi Madaki, the Councillor representing Jiwa ward at the council, promised to complement Mrs Buhari’s efforts by ensuring that healthcare facilities were also provided for the community.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that earlier in the year, Mrs Buhari had made similar donations to Sympaya and Wasa Villages, also in the FCT, to ease their water challenge.
NAN reports that, until Mrs Buhari’s gesture, the Gofinda Village was faced with dearth of healthcare facilities, good roads, and potable water.
The village is approximately 25 kilometres away from the Abuja City Centre.
