ABUJA- The First Lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan, on Monday reiterated her commitment to improve the life of women, children and the vulnerable across the country.
This is contained in a statement signed by Mrs Ayo Adesugba, Director of Information, Office of the First Lady in Abuja.
Jonathan said this at the inauguration of the Edo State chapter of the Women for Change and Development Initiative (W4CDI), her pet project in Benin City.
She said that the project which, came into existence out of her passion for the improvement of the life of women, children and the vulnerable in the society has been fully repositioned.
Mrs Jonathan urged women to support one another and shun `the pull her down syndrome’ as it would not encourage any positive development.
She also reiterated that the Edo chapter occupied a very strategic position in the country, adding that the women cannot afford to fail in the effort to enhance their well-being.
Mrs Jonathan listed the activities of W4CDI to include the empowerment of women, support for female contestants irrespective of their political party.
Others are weekly health talk shows, corrective surgery for children with heart conditions and peace advocacy, among other things.
The statement also said the Minister of Works, Mr Mike Onolememen, who chaired the occasion, praised the efforts of the First Lady in advancing the welfare of Nigerian women.
Onolememen, who described Mrs Jonathan as “a rare gift to Nigeria,’’ promised to contribute to the success of the chapter.
The First Lady was represented at the event by the National Coordinator of the NGO, Mrs Rabi Ibrahim. (NAN)
