Lagos – An Unseeded Duncan Mugabe of Uganda, created an upset at the ongoing 15th Governors Cup Lagos tennis after defeating Egyption, Karim-Mohamed Maamoun, seeded seven in the ongoing tournament.
Mugabe, who qualified to the third round of the competition, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos after the match that he was glad to defeat high seeded player.
The game which lasted more than two hours, saw the bulky Ugandan playing with vigour to counter the vastly experienced Egyptian.
Mugabe had appeared destabilised after he lost the first set, but came back strongly with more impressive foot work and powering serves to counter the Egyptians’ smooth moves.
“It is really a great feeling to win a match, and I feel like that right now, I hope to continue with my achievement and not relent in my next match,’’ he vowed.
Meanwhile, in another men’s match, Nigeria’s unseeded, Christian Paul defeated his compatriot Umaru Balami in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.
Top National player, Clifford Enoseregbe crashed out of the competition against the tournament’s number one seed, Aldin Setkic from Bosnia and Herzegovina who won, 6-1, 6-0.

The championship which started on Dec. 5, would end on Dec. 19, at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan.
The championship had been running in two parts — the futures 3 and 4, spanning two-week duration.
NAN reports that players were competing in four events, men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles and the doubles.
The last edition was downgraded to an `Invitational Tournament’ because of the scare that swept through West Africa, killing people in Liberia, Sierra leone, Guinea and Nigeria before being contained. (NAN)
