Munich captain Lahm breaks ankle, out for 3 months

MUNICH – Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm broke his ankle during training on Tuesday and is out of action for up to three months, the Bundesliga leaders said on Twitter.
“Big blow for Philipp Lahm: The captain has suffered a fractured ankle. He needs an operation and will be out for around 3 months!’’ Munich said.

Lahm will missing the remaining games of the year and likely also to miss the late January Bundesliga restart after a six-week winter break.

He is the latest injury casualty for Munich who also have Javi Martinez, David Alaba, Thiago, Holger Badstuber, Claudio Pizarro, Tom Starke and Pepe Reina, sidelined.

The champions, Munich, top the Bundesliga four points ahead of Wolfsburg going into Saturday’s game against Hoffenheim, and have reached the last 16 in the Champions League as group winners. (dpa/NAN)
