The music instructor told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that music also gives rhythmic breathing in pregnant women thereby making them to relax.
According to him, music takes the attention of a pregnant woman as a diversion from discomfort and extraneous hospital sounds which might signal anxiety.
“Almost every woman breaks down emotionally when pregnant. They become weak, depressed and lonely.
“The moment they take their time to listen to music, they become enthusiastic toward life again,’’ Adeleke said.
He said that music could have a significant positive impact on patients with long term illness such as heart disease, cancer and respiratory conditions.
“It lowers blood pressure and helps relieve pain, anxiety and improve listeners quality of life,” he said.
The director urged parents not to discourage their children and wards who show interest in music, saying it is a veritable tool for them to pursue a future career. (NAN)
