Lagos – A renowned sound engineer, Foster Zeeno, has said that music producers and other sound engineers in the country deserve royalty for their works in line with global best practice.
Zeeno told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos that due recognition given to sound engineers, producers included payment of royalty for their efforts.

“The main challenge people like us face is that it’s a one-off thing.
“It’s not like America, the way entertainment business is being done there, the older you become in the business, the more money you make because there are royalties.
“Every job you worked on even if they’ve paid you some money, there are some royalties you collect every quarter, maybe every six months, every year, but it’s not like that, so it’s a one-of thing.
“These are some major problems we really face, if you don’t work, you don’t get paid.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
“An artist won’t want to give you a royalty as far as he has paid you some thousands to produce or mix and master his song for him or her.
“He feels he has paid you so whatever royalties come in, whatever royalty, publishing, whether from performance, download, caller back tune, airplay from radio or TV(television) or whatever.
“He feels you don’t deserve anything and this thing cannot continue because even Ghana here, it’s not done that way, South Africa here, it’s not done that way.
“But I don’t know why Nigeria when it comes to let things go the right way, it always take forever in Nigeria.’’

NAN reports Zeeno has mixed songs for some of the biggest names in Nigerian music, including P-Square, D’banj, Wizkid, Iyanya, Bracket and Flavour.
