Following the deadly attacks on Zikke and Kimakpa communities in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has called for an expanded state security council meeting to tackle the rising insecurity in the state.
Naija News reports that the meeting took place on Monday at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Jos. The main focus was the troubling return of violence in Bassa and Bokkos Local Government Areas.
During the meeting, important decisions were made, with the government determined to take firm steps to restore peace and stop further attacks in the state.
Governor Mutfwang explained that over 100 armed men attacked the two communities early Monday morning, killing innocent people and burning down houses.
“We are on top of the situation and will go to any length to forestall a recurrence,” Mutfwang assured Plateau residents during the security council meeting.
He also said more details about the attacks would be shared during a public broadcast scheduled for Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
Details of the Attack
A community leader from Kwall, Wakili Tongwe, told Channels TV that the attackers came into the village early in the morning, shooting at residents as they tried to flee.
Tongwe, who was patrolling another area with vigilantes and security officers, described the terrifying event.
He said, “We were on patrol when we heard the gunshots. We immediately rushed to the community, but by the time we arrived, the attackers had already caused significant damage. We engaged them, and while we managed to repel the invaders, the loss was devastating.”
According to him, at least 36 people were killed during the attack, while four more later died from their injuries. Several others were wounded and are now being treated in nearby hospitals.
The attackers struck quickly and with deadly force, raising fresh concerns over security in the region. Even though security teams and local vigilantes responded, the harm had already been done.
This latest incident happened less than two weeks after similar attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area, where 52 people were killed, pointing to a worsening security situation in Plateau State.
