ABUJA (Sundiata Post) Just returned to Lagos this morning from Abuja since last week Thursday. Kept the trip off public glare for personal reasons.
I had to move round Abuja as much as possible during my stay. And my means of commuting were Keke Napep and unbranded taxies. Except when my host was free to pick me up.
On two different occasions, the drivers, ON THEIR OWN, started conversations on the state of the nation. One of the drivers, from my observation, from North Central, clearly lamented how he made a mistake in supporting Buhari in 2015.
“His party has nearly finished us. No business, no means of survival,” he said.
I told him the man might come back again in 2019.
“God forbid!” He retorted.
But I told him that APC does not care about democratic decencies.
“God pass them,” he said almost dejectedly.
I disembarked and he drove off.
Another one picked me in front of the hotel and less than two minutes, he started a conversation.
“Sir, sorry. You think say Baba go come back in 2019?” I said surely, he would.
“Okay then. Na im be say our sufferness never reach be that o.”
He didn’t say anything again until I alighted.
On Saturday morning, I needed to buy the papers and after trekking round over a kilometer without success, I had to flag a Keke to take me to a vendor’s stand.
The guy was a full blown Hausa Fulani.
“Sai Baba,” I teased him.
“Oga, which kain Sai Baba when we never chof?”
From these encounters, the issue was simple: ECONOMIC HARDSHIP. These guys care less about the language their president speaks or the religion he professes. They just want life to be simple.
Sit down in Lagos and be shouting Sai Baba.
Your man has squandered SEVENTY-FIVE PERCENT of his goodwill. From those who once held him in high esteem.
But with this APC and INEC at its beck and call, supported by DSS and police, his return might be fait accompli.
But Providence strikes when we expect least…
