ABUJA – Gov. Idris Wada of Kogi on Monday said that his administration would do everything possible to ensure that the state was industrialised.
Wada said this in an address at the ongoing 9th Abuja International Trade Fair.
The governor, who was speaking at Kogi Day at the fair, also said that his administration had supported Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in his state in various ways.
“My administration is set to revolutionalise the industrial sector in the state.
“This is the reason why the state government has ensured that many of our businessmen and women benefitted from the various loan schemes introduced in the state,’’ he said.
He called on local and foreign investors to come to the state, saying that Kogi was richly endowed with mineral resources.
Wada listed the resources to include coal, marble, crude oil, limestone, gold, kaolin and talc.
He added that the state was also blessed with agricultural resources such as yam, okra, fish, melon and plantain.
He said that the state had good records in history, including being the host of the first primary school in Northern Nigeria which was built in 1860.
He said that Lord Luguard residence, World War II Cenotaph, and the spot where the Royal Niger Company flag was lowered in 1890 were historical relics still found in the state. Earlier, the President of Kogi State Chamber of Commerce, Dr John Alabi, commended Abuja Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ABUCCIMA) for organising the fair.
Alabi said Kogi was yearning for development in several sectors, especially agriculture, tourism, solid minerals and SMEs.
He called for investments in the state, saying that the government had enacted a Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) law to motivate investors. (NAN)
