Catherine told the court that husband formed the habit of beating her at will, and that all efforts made by his relations to check him proved abortive.
The mother of two said that the husband once called her a prostitute in public, and also beat her up at their children’s school on another occasion.
Catherine added that her husband only gave her feeding allowance occasionally.
The respondent, Afolayan, said he beat the wife only when she provoked him at their children’s school.
Afolayan said he had been providing foodstuff for the family to the point that his wife would sometimes give food to their neighbours without his knowledge.
He added that he gave his wife a huge sum of money to start a business, but she did not appreciate it.
He said the wife voluntarily packed out of her matrimonial home.
After hearing from both parties, the court’s president, Mr Ogunsemi Joseph, adjourned the case till June 16 for judgment. (NAN)
